Old Storage Tank Story: From Condition Assessment to a revamped and modern equipment
It all started with an old gasoline tank that needed some technical evaluation to see if it is fit for additional usage.
We made a Condition Assessment according to API653 along with some calculations following National and European Standards and it has resulted that the Tank can be used for additional 15years, with specific repair works. The Condition Assessment was made starting with the classic Ultrasonic steel plates thickness measurements and ending with the latest technologies available on the market, like 3D Deformation Laser Scanning and Finite Element Analysis of the Data using dedicated software.
Afterwards came the detail design of the repair works that needed to be done to revamp the equipment and make it safe to be used for an additional 15 years.
Some course plates along with all nozzles and access steel structure were replaced and, in order to reduce the loads on the shell, new Aluminium Dome Roof was proposed. Also, to comply with the strict environment legislation and reduce the VOC emissions, new Internal Floating Roof was proposed for the equipment.
Now the gasoline tank is in operation, and it will be for another 15 years. We were happy to be able to reinstate an existing equipment by using together our knowledge along with the latest technologies to bring the Client two things that are always important: cost and time savings.
